Sunshine Blogger Award

Hi everyone! I’ve got a very different type of a post for you today. I just learned that I have been nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award by Helen of Dotted Pages!

What is the Sunshine Blogger Award?

The Sunshine Blogger Award is a blogger recognition award. It is given by bloggers to other bloggers whose work they admire or appreciate. It is a celebration of creativity, and of the blogging community in general.

It also helps us bloggers to get to know each other, and share other blogs that we appreciate! This Sunshine Blogger Award takes the form of a Question & Answer style post, so I’ll be sharing a little bit about myself, and then nominating other bloggers to answer some questions that I came up with!

Thank you so much to Helen of dottedpages.com for nominating me. Be sure to check out Helen’s fantastic blog for anything you ever wanted to know about bullet journaling, organizing and planning!

I am so honored to have been nominated! I have been blogging for just over seven months now, but feel like I have really found my calling with this blog.

Sunshine Blogger Award Rules

Let’s start with the ground rules of the Sunshine Blogger Award:

  • Thank the person who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  • Answer the 11 questions asked by the person who nominated you.
  • Nominate 11 people and ask them 11 questions.
  • Notify the nominees by commenting on one of their posts.
  • List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award image in your post.

Questions From Helen at Dotted Pages

#1 – Which is your favourite season?

I feel that this is a little cliche these days… but fall is and always has been my very favorite season. My two favorite holidays are in fall – Halloween and Thanksgiving. I love the cooler weather, fall colors, football, and foods that come with fall as well.

Unfortunately for the last 11+ years, I have lived in places that do not have a fall season (Phoenix and Hawai’i). So I LOVE fall travel!

#2 – Why did you start your blog?

I have dabbled In blogging a few times over the years, but in the 2 blogs previous to this one, I gave up only a few months in.

This one I started in March during the first lockdown. I had already been off work for 2 months due to a work accident in the beginning of January, and initially this blog was just something to keep me busy so I didn’t go crazy while not working.

But it quickly morphed into something more. Somewhere that I hoped to reach out to others and help and inspire them to live happier and healthier lives.

#3 – What’s your favourite ice cream flavor?

Ooooh, good question. Ice cream is most definitely my kryptonite. My favorite ice cream is a locally made ice cream here where I live in Hawai’i. It is called Kauai pie and is pretty similar to mud pie ice cream with a Hawaiian twist.

Kauai pie has a Kona coffee base, with chunks of macadamia nuts, coconut flakes, and fudge (you guessed it, from Hawaiian grown chocolate). YUM!

#4 – Sunset or sunrise?

Oooh, you can’t go wrong with either. I often make a point to sit on the beach and watch the sunset with friends.

I very rarely get to sit and actually enjoy a sunrise. Either I’m getting ready for work during it, or I’m sleeping. So on the rare occasions I get to actually savor a sunrise, it is pretty special.

#5 – Where would you go for your dream holiday?

So many places I want to go! I’m really an adventure vacationer – you know, the kind  you feel like you need a vacation from when you get home.

Lately I have been kind of fixated on feeling to Machu Picchu with my best friend who I haven’t been able to visit in far too long. So I’m going to say feeling to Machu Picchu with her is my dream holiday right now.

#6 – What’s your Hogwarts House?

I LOVE Harry Potter! In fact, it’s almost time for my annual Harry Potter movie marathon which takes place between Christmas and New Years each year.

As far as the house… I think the sorting hat would say, “Gryffindor!”

#7 – Cats or Dogs?

I love all animals, but I’ve got to say, I’m probably more of a dog person.

I’ve got a Catahoula Hound/Whippet mix named Ipo. Her second birthday is November 8th!

#8 – Do you wear glasses?

I have worn contacts since I was in the seventh grade. However, I just got my first pair of glasses about a year ago.

#9 – What’s your favourite tree species?

What a great question! I’m going to go with weeping willow on this one.

My grandpa had a huge weeping willow tree in his yard where I spent a lot of time as a kid. That tree is where I learned to climb! Many, many fond memories in that tree.

#10 – Who helps you through tough times?

I am fortunate to have some pretty supportive people in my life. My partner is of course amazing – so supportive and encouraging of everything I do.

My sister is also a great confidante for me, as is my best friend. I just wished they lived a little closer! My sister is about 3,000 miles away, and my best friend is 6,000 miles away. Thank goodness for FaceTime!

#11 – Where do you see yourself in five-years time?

It’s so funny you should ask! I have a five year plan sitting in my drafts file for the blog right now.

But the abbreviated answer is that I would like me and my partner to move closer to family, and to have established our own businesses in 5 years time.

My Sunshine Blogger Award Nominations

Nominating 11 people  was a pretty tough decision! I have only been blogging as I said for a little over 7 months, but I feel that I have really found my tribe in the Twitter blogging community.

It is so amazing to me how supportive, helpful and inspiring that group of people is. I feel that I have made friends with all kinds of people from all over the world!

So for this nomination I looked for people who I felt produce quality and inspiring content on a regular basis. I also factored in how much these people participated in and gave back to the blogging community in my own experience.

I hope too many of you haven’t been nominated already!

  1. Congrats on the well-deserved award! I’ll check out Helen’s blog in a minute. I liked reading your answers – I now really want to get up and out to see a morning sunrise. It’s been far too long.

Happy second birthday to Ipo for today!! 🎉 xx

    1. Thank you Caz! It’s been awhile since I’ve seen a good sunrise as well. I need to fix that. And yes, definitely check out Helen’s blog, I highly recommend it! Thank you for reading, Caz!

  2. Ooh I love reading these and finding out more about my blogging friends! And you’ve come up with some great questions too. Thanks so much for the nomination! I’ll get working on my answers 🙂

    1. Awesome Ellie! I wasn’t sure who would be into doing this challenge and who had already been nominated. Coming up with the questions was kind of hard! I look forward to reading your answers. It is fun to learn about blogging friends!

  3. Congratulations on being nominated!! I love reading posts like this, as they are a fun way to get to know the bloggers in our community. I totally had you pegged as a Gryffindor lol! (What can I say, I’m a total Harry Potter addict who takes the time to think about the house of each person that I interact with haha)
Thank you so much for the nomination! You made my day!

    1. Awwww thanks Britt, I’m so glad to hear it – I look forward to getting to know you a little better with your answers to these questions!

I’m glad to hear you agree with my assessment of Gryffindor – it feels like the cliche answer but, I think it’s true for me.

  4. Kauai pie is an ice cream I need to try. It sounds delicious and flavorful and new!

Congratulations on the nomination! I loved getting to know a little more about you. I love willow trees, especially the giant twisted up old ones we sometimes pass out on old country road. Our willow tree is young and learning to weep. 🙂

    1. I loveeeee love dogs too! 😂 and it’s amazing that you live in Hawaii! It’s been one of the best places I want to go to someday. I hope all is well there where you live. We also have a very similar story about our blogs, I too have become very fond of it and I wanted to share my thoughts for other people too, sometimes it amazes me that I became so close to it. Awesome answers and Congratulations on this award! You are definitely a sunshine, Clarissa. 😊🌻

      1. Awwww thank you Elle, that is quite the compliment!

If I am being completely honest I didn’t think I’d become as attached to my blog as I have! It sounds like maybe that was the case for you as well. It feels so great to have found this supportive little community! I really I don’t think I’d have made it this far without it!

Thanks so much for reading and support, and I hope that you get to visit Hawai’i some day!

  5. I loved reading your responses! I found it quite difficult to come up with new questions so glad you liked them ☺️ I love that your favourite ice cream is unique to Hawaii; that’s the sort of great snapshot a Q&A can provide. Thanks so much for continuing to pass on the love xx

    1. Awww thanks Helen, and thanks again for the nomination. I enjoyed answering your questions! I know what you mean, it was tough to write them! I’m looking forward to seeing other people’s answers. Thanks for including me!

    1. Hey Joseph, there’s nothing specific that you have to do to be nominated for this award. Bloggers just choose other bloggers who’s blog inspires them. My best advice would be to write quality content, and interact with a community of bloggers (either on twitter or Facebook). That’s how I’ve come to know other bloggers. Best of luck, and thanks for reading!

  6. Congratulations Clarissa, and very well deserved the award is, too. Its always interesting to read these posts and get a little insight into a fellow blogger. I have a very important question though – how do I get Kauai pie ice cream here in the UK? 🙂

    1. Awww thanks so much for the kind words Richie! That absolutely is a very important question, unfortunately I am sorry to say that I don’t believe you will like the answer! The only way to get it is to visit a Lappert’s location in Kaua’i – they don’t sell it in stores, even on the island.

Also, I’m beginning to think that maybe I could’ve had career as an ice cream sales-woman. 😂 Thanks so much for reading Richie!

  7. congrats on being nominated! I loved reading about you. I’m a dog person too! Seriously could own a thousand puppies and it still wouldn’t be enough lol

    1. Thank you Deandra. Dogs are fantastic! Mine was such a handful as a puppy though. 😂😂 To be completely honest I’m glad she’s matured a bit, although of course I love her to death no matter what!

  8. Congratulations on being nominated for the award! I loved the questions and getting to know a little bit more about you. I am so tempted by the ice cream flavour ahah. Thanks for sharing 🙂

  9. So interesting to read about fellow bloggers. I too started my blog to keep me occupied during the lockdown and it soon became something that I was looking forward to every day. I guess I just needed a purpose to wake up to, which is beyond money and financial gains. Sometimes I wonder if writing is my Ikigai.. it will be once I start earning from it 🙂

    1. That is fantastic Twishaa! Writing could very well be your Ikigai! I’ve always had an affinity for writing as well, although I enjoy the non-fiction type. It sounds like our lockdown “distractions” turned out quite well! I’m looking forward to checking your blog out! Thanks so much for giving mine a read. ☺️
