October was a big month for me! I launched my HHWP, I participated in Blogtober (publishing a post every single day), AND I turned 35 years old!
If you haven’t yet, check out how I did with my October HHWP goals, and see all that I learned.
Now that Blogtober has ended, I will no longer be posting every day, but will be returning to my regular bi-weekly blogging schedule of posting every Wednesday and Sunday (with maybe one extra post mixed in here and there).
I’ll continue to update you about my HHWP, but will also be mixing in more content about healthy habits, mindset, and overall wellness and happiness.
But today’s post is all about my November Goals for my HHWP! Shall we get to them?
November Healthy.Happy.Whole Goals
As you may recall, at the beginning of my project, I chose 5 areas of my life that I wanted to focus on improving during the course of my project.
Those 5 areas were:
- Improve physical health.
- Find my calling.
- Build keystone habits.
- Achieve life balance.
- Strengthen relationships.
Each month of my HHWP, the intention is to set new goals in these 5 areas of my life, in order to become progressively happier, healthier, and fulfilled by the life that I am living!
So let’s take a look at my new goals in each of these 5 areas of life, one at a time.
Improve Physical Health
As I am still physically unable to return to work, according to my orthopedic surgeon (following a shoulder surgery and wrist injury as a result of an accident at work), one of my main goals for this project is my continued rehabilitation.
I feel like my shoulder is making some significant progress! However, my wrist has been acting up recently. I just received a steroid injection in it on October 29th, we will see in a couple of weeks if that will solve the problem.
If all goes well, my doctor is hopeful that I will be cleared for full release to work at my next appointment, which is my 6 month post-operative check-up, just before Christmas on December 22nd. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
Until then, my November goals to improve physical health are to:
- Continue going to physical therapy twice a week.
- Perform my prescribed shoulder and wrist exercises at home four times per week.
- Perform cardiovascular exercise at least three times per week, increasing the length of time of each session as tolerated.
I would also like to get back to paddling my outrigger canoe, which my doctor had just given me permission to do at the end of September, before my wrist issue flared up. But I won’t make that an official goal since it is entirely dependent on how my wrist reacts to the injection.
Answer My Calling
This objective I had originally called “find my calling” but after a super productive October, I believe I have found my calling!
So in honor of that, for the remainder of my HHWP, I will rename this objective, “answer my calling”, now that I actually know what it is.
As a recap, for my calling, I have decided to leave the tourism industry which has become highly unpredictable here in Hawaii with all the complications from Covid-19.
I have decided instead to return to my roots with my new career path. I have a Master’s degree in Exercise and Wellness as well as personal training certifications.
However, in my younger years I was more interested in athletics. I did strength and conditioning coaching for a number of years at the collegiate level, helped coach a high school girls sprint and hurdle squad, did private sports performance coaching, and led boot camp-style group training classes.
Then, I taught for three and half years at an online vocational school for people that wanted to become personal trainers.
I taught all kinds of classes including anatomy, behavior change, motivational interviewing, nutrition, exercise science, programing, and even personal training certification test preparation classes.
Then I moved out to Hawaii and became the director of operations for an adventure company.
But now that I am a bit older, I have come back to my love of health and wellness. I have decided that I can help more people by focusing on the health side of things rather than the performance side as I did when I was younger.
I believe that my calling is to help people build the mindset and healthy habits necessary to prevent chronic disease so that they can live their lives to the fullest. This is how I can use my skills to help others, in a way that I am passionate about.
Because of my education and background in Exercise & Wellness, I will just need to study for, and then take a health coaching certification exam.
As mentioned in my previous post, I will also continue to build my blog, and diversify my income streams.
So my November goals in the “answer my calling” category are to:
- Study at least one hour a day for my health coach certification.
- Publish a blog post at least twice a week on the topics of healthy habits, mindset, or living life to the fullest.
- Cultivate alternate income streams by:
- Signing up for affiliate programs related to exercise and wellness.
- Legally protecting my blog.
- Developing a digital product to have ready to launch by New Year’s resolution season.
Build Keystone Habits
The next area of life I chose to focus on for my HHWP was keystone habits. If you’re not familiar with the 10 keystone habits, you may want to take a moment to read about them.
In this category, I especially want to continue to develop time management techniques and systems so that I can make sure that I have time for everything that is a priority.
My November goals for the keystone habit category are to:
- Plan out my blog content all the way through the end of 2020 so that I can be more consistent in my posting, and write ahead.
- Schedule Twitter posts one week in advance. Aim for at least 3 posts per day.
- Make a pin tracking sheet so I can see what is and isn’t working well on Pinterest.
- Make and schedule at least 5 fresh pins/day – also add these into old posts.
Achieve Life Balance
Achieving life balance is important to me. Before I injured myself, it was all work. Tons of overtime, working 6 days a week, and when I wasn’t at work, I was expected to be responding to work texts, calls. and emails constantly.
Now, I’ve gone completely the other way after my injury and have no (paid) work, although I’ve been filling that time with blogging and rehabilitation.
My November goals for the “achieve life balance” category are to:
- Take advantage of time blocking and build a new routine so that I am able to make sure I have time to develop my blog, study for my exam, rehab my shoulder/wrist, and take care of my relationships.
- Make boundaries for when work time is over. Scheduling should help with this.
- Get outside at least once a week for a hike, paddle, or little time at the beach – because the outdoors is good for clearing my head and important for my happiness.
Finally, the last category for my HHWP, was to strengthen relationships. In October, I set the goal to reach out to my dad/step-mom, mom, brother, sister, and best friend at least once a week.
I was a little inconsistent with this last month, so I’d like to make a slight change for November and divide them into two groups, contacting each group every other week in hopes that this will be a little more manageable and allow me to be more consistent in this goal..
The contact schedule goes like this:
- Weeks 1 & 3 – dad/step-mom and brother.
- Weeks 2 & 4 – mom, sister, and best friend.
The other thing I’d like to do in this category for November, is to actually go to visit my family in Washington state.
I want to point out that I don’t do this lightly. I was supposed to go home in April when my only sister gave birth to her first baby. And I was supposed to go to my cousin’s nursing school graduation and wedding in June, but I cancelled both of those trips.
Until a few weeks ago (October 15th), Hawaii was still completely closed for tourism and all returning residents had to do a mandatory 14 day quarantine, no matter what – even if they tested negative for covid-19.
Now, they are allowing visitors to the islands. And prior to leaving the mainland for Hawaii, I will need to get a Covid-19 test three days prior to flying.
If I test negative, I can fly to Hawaii and quarantine in my home (away from my partner) for 3 days, until I am eligible to take a second covid-19 test in Hawaii.
If that second test is also negative, then I will be allowed to come out of quarantine, if not, I will be required to finish out the full 14 day quarantine.
To be honest, I feel completely anxious about making the trip. But it seems that now may be my last chance to see my family for who knows how long. With cases increasing, and expected to continue to do so throughout the winter… this could be my last chance for a long time.
So as a recap, my November goals in the strengthen “relationships” category are to:
- Contact my family/BFF at least every other week according to the schedule above.
- Visit my family in Washington including meeting my new niece.
So there we have it, my November Happy.Healthy.Whole Project goals! My project got off to a fantastic start last month in October, and I hope this month will go just as well.
Last month my biggest challenges were the blogtober blogging challenge, and figuring out what my calling was. This month I expect my biggest challenges will come from the category of “answer my calling.” Particularly with studying for the health coaching exam, and trying to make the change to start monetizing my blog through affiliate marketing.
