Another holiday season is rapidly approaching! First Christmas, and then finally, New Years Eve and the end of 2020..

I would imagine that people are looking forward to this New Year’s Eve more than perhaps ever before, with as trying as 2020 was.

New Year’s Eve is kind of a magical holiday, where people believe in fresh starts and clean slates. January first brings  hope and optimism about making change and turning over a new leaf like no other part of the year can.

Each year, roughly two thirds of Americans (over 164 million people) make at least one New Year’s Resolution.

Can you guess what the most common type of New Year’s resolution is?

If you said “health”, you’re right! An estimated 39.2% of Americans make resolutions to exercise more, eat better, and/or to lose weight.

I would imagine that even more people plan to prioritize health in 2021 being that we are in the middle of a global pandemic.

So if you have a loved one that has big hopes and aspirations for improving their health and well being in the new year, why not show your support by giving them the gift of health?

And while you’re at it, maybe you can find something that will help you reach your goals as well!

For Loved Ones Who Want To Get Fit Or Lose Weight

Polar A300 Fitness Tracker and Activity Monitor

Who It’s For

This watch is most appropriate for the athlete in your life, or anyone else that needs highly accurate data on Heart Rate (HR) and calories burned.

Main Features

This Polar watch comes with a heart rate strap that is worn around the chest. The strap transmits HR information via bluetooth directly to the watch in real time.

Many other fitness tracking watches use optical HR monitoring (the process of shining light through the skin at the wrist to monitor pulse). However, the Polar HR chest strap is far superior in terms of accuracy for both HR and calories burned, as compared to watches that use optical HR monitoring.

In addition to HR and calories burned, The Polar watch can also track daily steps, distance traveled, sleep time, sleep quality, and inactivity.

Note: the watch can still be used without the HR strap to track steps, sleep, etc. (just not calories or HR). I typically wear the strap only during workouts, and then just wear the watch the rest of the day.

Other Things To Keep in Mind

Some people are really bothered by having to wear a chest strap. When I was a college athlete, I hardly noticed it. For women, the chest strap rests just under the breasts where the band from the sports bra is anyway – so I find that most women hardly notice the chest strap.

Some male athletes that I have worked with have not liked having to wear the chest strap, although many get used to it after a week or two. Polar does offer just the watch without the HR strap for a discounted price.

Fitbit Versa 2 Health and Fitness Smartwatch

Who It’s For

This Fitbit is great for the tech savvy person that wants to increase activity levels.

Main Features

This product measures heart rate, estimated calories, daily steps, time asleep, sleep score, and inactivity – everything you could want in a fitness tracker.

It also has way more bells and whistles than the polar watch above. You can use voice activated Alexa right from your FitBit to get news and information, check the weather, set timers and alarms, and even play music with Pandora or Spotify!

Other Things To Keep in Mind

The fitbit uses optical HR tracking as discussed above. This method is less accurate than the chest strap featured by the Polar Watch. BUT, don’t let that deter you – while this watch is not the best fit for the hard-core athlete, it is a fantastic choice for people that are just looking to improve their health and fitness levels.

Noom Behavior Change App

Who It’s For

Noom is for the person that is over fad diets, and wants to make changes to their fitness and nutrition habits that can become part of their new healthier lifestyle.

Main Features

Noom offers three different packages depending on your loved one’s goals. They have the “Get Fit For Good”, “Lose Weight For Good” and Diabetes Prevention Program.

With ALL of these programs, your loved one will be able to chat with a Health Coach during regular business hours. This coach can help troubleshoot any problems your loved one might be having sticking to their goals.

With these programs, you get access to all kinds of information and tools to help you improve nutrition, increase activity levels, and decrease stress.

Noom takes a scientific and psychology-based approach which focuses on long-term success rather than quick fixes. And the best part? There is a large body of scientific research that demonstrates that Noom’s approach actually works

Other Things To Keep in Mind

Noom has a two week free trial that you can sign up for to see if the program is right for you.

After that, the “Get Fit For Good”, “Lose Weight For Good” programs cost $59 per month, or $99 every two months.

The Diabetes Prevention Program is a little more expensive at just under $90 per month, but it does come with some extra perks.

TRX Suspension Trainer

Who It’s For

The TRX Suspension Trainer is really for everyone! It can be used for all sorts of goals including: weight loss, building muscle, improving flexibility, and increasing balance and stabilization.

It is good for beginners, advanced exercisers, and even high level athletes.

trx squats outside

Main Features

The TRX Suspension Trainer is my absolute favorite piece of workout equipment! When I bought mine I cancelled my gym membership and saved over 60$ per month. It is one of the most versatile pieces of equipment out there.

It also doesn’t take up a lot of space, and travels easily. I used to take it on trips to use in my hotel room, or take it to the park for a workout in the sunshine!

Other Things To Keep in Mind

One thing to keep in mind with the TRX Suspension Trainers is the kind of mount you want to use. Each system comes with a door mount which works pretty well, but be careful that you are not damaging your door frame.

I strongly prefer the ceiling mount, which is not included with the TRX packages. I have installed a ceiling mount in my garage, but not everyone will have this option.

For Loved Ones Who Want To Eat Healthier Or Lose Weight

Pretty much everyone could use a little work on their nutrition. Check out these gifts that make eating healthy a little easier.

Ninja Professional Countertop Blender

Who It’s For

This blender is for smoothie lovers (and who doesn’t love a good smoothie, really?)!

Main Features

I got my first Ninja blender way back when they were brand new and cost hundreds of dollars. I still absolutely love them!

This particular blender is very heavy duty, and crushes ice with ease for delicious, evenly blended drinks. It comes with a 72-ounce pitcher if you’re making smoothies for the whole family, or two 16-ounce travel cups with lids that can be used to blend in which creates less dishes to wash if you’re only making one smoothie.

This blender is very durable, easy to clean, is dishwasher safe, and does not contain BPA.

Snapware Total Solution Plastic Food Storage Set

Who It’s For

This tupperware set is for meal-preppers and anyone that wants to start eating home cooked meals at work or school.

Main Features

I have always been a meal prepper. I do not like to cook every night when I get home from work, so I do most of my cooking on the weekends. I have tried many, many different types of tupperware over the years, and most of them leak.

My favorite thing about SnapWare is that it truly does have an air tight seal – no more lunch bag leakage!

This set includes 20 different pieces, all of which are BPA free as well as dishwasher, freezer, and microwave safe.

Instant Pot Air Fryer Pressure Cooker Combo

Who It’s For

Busy people who feel uncomfortable leaving a slow-cooker on all day while they are out of the house at work.

Main Features

I have had an Instant Pot for quite awhile now – and love how quickly it can cook things – especially meat. However, I was a little late to the game on the whole air fryer thing, and now I really regret not getting this sooner!

Since getting my air fryer I have cooked all kinds of things in it ranging from pork roasts, to apple chips, and even breakfast egg rolls for football Sundays! It’s shocking how quick and easy the air fryer is.

There are a lot of different air fryers out there, but what I like about this particular set is that it is the usual Instant Pot base, but it comes with two lids – one for pressure cooking and one for air frying. This way it takes up less room in my already full kitchen.

Other Things To Keep in Mind

If you already have an Instant Pot, you can purchase the air fryer lid separately. Just make sure you know what size Instant Pot you have. They make a 6, 8, and 10 quart Instant Pot or a 26-liter Instant Pot.

Volumetrics Cookbook Set

Who They’re For

These cookbooks are for people that often feel like they are still hungry after eating a healthy meal.

Main Features

I have had these two cookbooks for years now and they are my go-to when it comes to healthy recipes. I have even bought them for several people as gifts myself.

The idea behind these books is to help you feel full and satisfied, while still eating healthily. The key to this is something called nutrient density, which the book explains.

Also, the recipes are really delicious. I don’t feel like I’m missing out on much of anything with these recipes.

For Loved Ones Who Want To Improve Overall Health

23 & Me Health & Heritage DNA Test

Who It’s For

People that are curious about their genetic health predispositions and ancestry!

Main Features

This DNA test is a simple, at-home saliva test that can give you a wealth of information!

This particular package includes: health, ancestry, and trait analysis.

For example, you can learn if you carry the gene for some diseases such as type two diabetes, Alzheimer’s Disease, or Celiac Disease.

You can also learn about where in the world your ancestor’s genes came from, and traits like how your genes affect things like eye and hair color as well as body weight!

My partner and I decided to each do one of these tests for Christmas several years ago. It was fun to compare the results!

Other Things To Keep in Mind

Some people may not want to know whether or not they are at risk for certain diseases, take this into account before purchasing the 23 & Me kit for someone.

If you like the idea of learning about your ancestry and genetic traits but would rather not see any of the medical information, check out the AncestryDNA kit.

Omron Body Composition Scale

Who It’s For

This gift is perfect for people that want to lose weight or build muscle!

When trying to lose weight, people often get discouraged when the number on the scale does not go down, despite weeks or months of hard work. It’s not that nothing has changed, it is just that body weight alone does not tell the full story. For this purpose, body composition is a much better measure as it can tell if you have lost fat, gained muscle, etc.

Main Features

This body composition scale, measures 6 important health indicators including Body Weight, Body Fat percentage, Visceral Fat (which indicated disease risk), Skeletal Muscle percentage, Resting Metabolism (how many calories your body burns at rest) and Body Mass Index (BMI).

This scale has the ability to track up to 4 different family members. It also comes with a free app for android and apple devices and is bluetooth capable. The app allows for unlimited storage of your daily or weekly weigh-ins so that it is easy to track your progress!

For Loved Ones With Back Pain Or Bad Posture

Did you know that back pain is the second most common reason (after the cold) that American’s visit their primary care doctor?

Upright Go 1 – With Necklace

Who It’s For

The Upright Go 1 is for anyone who wants a discrete solution to back pain or slouching. It is also particularly helpful for people that tend to spend a lot of time sitting or using screens.

Main Features

This wearable technology is meant to be a posture correcting device. In other words, it is intended to help you recognize when you are slouching throughout the day. After calibration, it will gently vibrate to remind you to sit up straight when you are slouching.

The great thing about this device is that it gives people immediate feedback on their posture so that they can begin to become more aware of it. This allows people to form a better habit posture, and in many cases, can help to reduce back and neck pain.

Other Things To Keep in Mind

This particular device is meant to be placed with adhesive tape on your upper back underneath your clothes.

However, depending on a person’s skin type and activity level throughout the day, some people have trouble with the adhesive sticking or the device falling off.

I personally was not a big fan of sticking it to my skin, so the product I have included here is one that offers an alternative to that – it can be worn as a necklace which is still pretty discrete.

But you do have the option to purchase the device without the necklace if you wish.

I would also like to point out another posture correcting device called the Lumo Lift. The Lumo Lift is very similar to the Upright Go. The major difference is how the Lumo lift is worn.

This device is a small magnetic square that attaches to your shirt front, just below the collar bone. Some people don’t like this because other people can see the device, but I really don’t mind it, and it seems to be the least obnoxious attachment type to me, personally.

Back Stretching Device

Who It’s For

People who sit a lot or have lower and or upper back pain.

Main Features

This device is designed to help stretch out tight back muscles. It is covered in memory foam which makes it comfy to use, and has 3 different levels of arch.

This back stretcher can be used while laying down, or sitting in a chair or a car. It comes with straps to attach it to the chair, preventing unwanted sliding.

It has a breathable mesh cover (which is even washable!) that promotes air flow and prevents excessive sweating

For Loved Ones Who Could Use A Better Night’s Sleep

The best stress reducer and productivity tool, is a good night’s rest. Why not give the gift of sleep to your loved one?

Orthopedic Knee Pillow

Who It’s For

Side-sleepers with lower back, knee, or hip pain.

Main Features

Did you know that sleeping on your side on a regular basis can mis-align your spine and cause pain in the back and lower limbs?

This memory foam pillow that is placed between the knees while sleeping on the side, can help to keep the spine in alignment and make sleeping more comfortable and restful.

This pillow comes with a breathable, removable, cotton cover that is hypo-allergenic.

I found this specially shaped pillow to be much more comfortable than a regular pillow between the knees.

Weighted Blanket

Who It’s For

You’ve probably heard of weighted blankets being used by autistic children to soothe them, but these weighted blankets can be used by anyone!

I find them to be super cozy and comforting, especially in the cold winter months when all you want to do is curl up and be cozy. It’s kind of like a big hug!

Main Features

The product I included here is a 15 pound blanket that was designed for use by one person. But if you’d like to have a bigger one, or one for two people, they make those as well.

Check out the different sizes, weights, and designs that are available in the link below.

Hatch Restore Natural Light Alarm Clock & Sound Machine

Who It’s For

People that have trouble sleeping, especially falling asleep at night, or feeling overly groggy in the morning.

Or just anyone who hates waking up to the obnoxious shrilling of a regular alarm clock or phone alarm.

Main Features

This light has so many amazing features I’m not even sure where to start!

The Hatch Restore Light is:

  • A natural light alarm clock, waking you up gradually rather than abruptly.
  • A sound machine where you can choose from white noise or relaxing sounds.
  • A reading light that does not have the blue light which interferes with circadian rhythms.
  • Allows you to customize a bedtime routine.
  • Controlled either by touch, or by an app.
  • Customizable – choose the colors and sounds that suit you!

This thing is amazing, I can’t say enough good things about it. I think it’s especially useful for setting a good bedtime routine, which for me includes reading. So I really appreciate the night light feature.

Oh, and they also make a version of this for babies. My sister has it for my niece and loves it!

For Loved Ones Who Want To Speed Up Recovery

Get your loved ones back in the game (literally or figuratively) with these gifts that help speed up recovery!

Thera Cane Self Massager

Who It’s For

People with upper back or neck pain caused by tight muscles and stress.

Main Features

I definitely hold my stress in my shoulders as many other people do. If you’re one of those people, and don’t have a significant other that is willing to give you a shoulder massage, this thing will become your best friend!

The Thera Cane’s shape allows you to massage your own tight back and neck muscles.

Give it a shot, I promise you won’t regret it!

321 STRONG Foam Roller

Who It’s For

Anyone with a stiff back or tight leg muscles (who doesn’t mind rolling around on the ground a bit).

Main Features

While the Thera Cane is amazing for tight upper body muscles, I find a foam roller to be more effective for self-massaging tight lower body muscles such as the glutes, hamstrings, quads, IT bands (outer thighs), adductors (inner thighs), calves, and even the back.

The foam roller I have included below, has bumps on it for deeper pressure which I really prefer.

If you’d prefer a little less pressure, check out this foam roller.

TheraFlow Dual Foot Massager Roller

Who It’s For

People who are on their feet all day or have foot pain.

Main Features

Did you know that knee, hip, or lower back pain can originate from the foot? It’s true!

This is the perfect gift for a loved one with aching feet. I bought one and absolutely love it! I keep mine under my desk, and randomly give my feet a roll throughout the day.

Each of the rollers has little knobs designed to break up knots in the muscles that make up the arch of your foot.

It’s made of wood so it doesn’t get stinky and is easy to clean, which is a pretty big win if you ask me!

COOLMAN Cold Therapy Cryotherapy Machine

Who It’s For

This is the perfect gift for anyone that has nagging sports injuries, sore muscles from workouts,  joint pain, or is recovering from surgery.

Main Features

This cryotherapy machine is an absolute life saver! My physical therapist told me about it and I have now used this when recovering from knee and shoulder surgery. I also like to use it after a tough paddle practice or workout.

It is basically an ice bucket, with a hose hooked between it and an adjustable pad that you put around the sore body part. There is a pump on the machine that continuously circulates cold water into the pad on the sore body part.

This particular model comes with a pad that fits well on the neck, back, knee, ankle, leg or hip.

    1. Awesome Claire, I am so glad you found something that you could use on this list. I absolutely love those resistance bands. I have had my set for I don’t even know how long… maybe six or seven years I guess? They are absolutely worth the money and so versatile and flexible. I think it’s much easier to have those at home than a set of all those different dumbbells (which are much more expensive), and they take up a lot less room as well. Thank you for reading!

  1. Hi Clarissa. What a fantastic list – and wonderfully timed too. I can imagine that there are many people who are, or will be, looking to improve their physical and mental health in the near future. Just a quick observation – with the TRX Suspension Trainer picture, where the heck are the leads secured? The lady in the picture looks as if she is about to take off for some paragliding! 🙂

    1. Thank you Richie, I I’m so glad to hear that you enjoyed the list, I hope it will help make people shopping a little bit easier this year!

Haha! The TRX suspension trainer is connected to the bleachers on the soccer field. Paragliding sounds pretty awesome too though, where do I sign up for that? 😁 Thanks for checking out my guide Richie!

    1. Hahaha that’s awesome Rosie, I do love cheese although it often doesn’t agree with me. Great point about these items being applicable all year long. Thanks for stopping by and giving this a read and enjoy your Christmas cheese! 😁

  2. Clarissa, these items are fantastic! I could definitely do with the foam roller as I’m getting all kinds of aches now that I’ve upped my Kilimanjaro training! Ill check if they deliver here..

I got a weighted blanket in September when I was having trouble sleeping and it was the BEST purchase ever! It can take some getting used to but I feel so secure and comfortable and its helped loads with my sleep anxiety.

I also want everything else you mention 😂 (I’m off to amazon!)

    1. Haha that’s awesome Ellie! I am so glad that you found some things that you like on that list.

That’s awesome about the weighted blanket! I never really knew about them until my oldest nephew was diagnosed with autism. But then I got one and it was a-ma-zing! It makes me feel so cozy and safe. My partner’s not a big fan though so I just use the throw-sized one which works perfectly.

I think the foam roller could definitely help with the Kilimanjaro training. That sounds super amazing and I really love to go someday as well!

    1. That sounds like a fantastic idea Sadie! There’s no shame in buying yourself Christmas gifts when they’re good for you, right? At least That’s how it plays out in my head. 😁🤷‍♀️ Thank you so much for stopping by and checking this out!

    1. I am glad you enjoyed the list Jodie! I have always been a big fan of the fitbits. I love to see my steps throughout the day and I especially love the regular reminder to get up and move rather than just sitting in one place all day long which can be so easy to do if you have a desk job!

  3. I love the idea of giving things like a suspension trainer and cookbooks as gifts! I received a set of weights as a gift once and have used them ever since. A gift that keeps on giving. 🙂

    1. I am so glad to hear that you found some inspiration for Christmas gifts for your family in this guide! 1. I absolutely agree that health deserves to be on the highest level – especially now! With everything going on, people seem to be reprioritizing their health, which I suppose is a silver lining of all of this.

  6. Yes yes yes! This post is amazing. I love smart watches! I love this list as it stays away from the typical Christmas gifts people usually get. The world is becoming a bit more health conscious and these gifts are a must to help one achieve a healthier lifestyle 😊

  7. The gift of health is such a lovely idea, and I love these ideas 🙂 I bought my boyfriend a gym bag with some supplies, and a way to track his progress- he was already committed to his health, but I think the gift showed I appreciated his hobbies while also looking out for his health x

    1. That’s awesome Eleanor! I love receiving this sort of gift. My partner got me a paddle board for my birthday one year, and a gps system for backpacking for Christmas another year. 1. You’re welcome Sue! I am glad that you enjoyed the ideas. The TRX is amazing! Like I said, my absolute favorite piece of exercise equipment. It can be used on a door as well so long as you choose a very study door so as not to damage it. The door between my garage and inside my house is super sturdy so that’s the one I used to use before getting my mount. Thanks for reading!

    1. Thank you Alison! It’s always a bonus when you can combine practical with thoughtful! Those back stretchers are amazing, I love them. I actually just bought myself a new office chair this week because my back was killing me sitting in a wooden chair all the time. 😬🤷‍♀️ Thank you for stopping by and giving this read!

  10. I have a fruit infuser water bottle & my mum ended up buying one for herself after she saw me using mine haha
I think an air fryer & the Burt’s Bee set would be great gifts for my mum!

    1. That’s awesome Karalee! I don’t know why but I have always hated drinking water. I’ve always had to work hard at drinking enough water except for during workouts, and those infuser bottles really do the trick for me. Those sound like good ideas for your mom! Thank you so much for checking out my gift guide and, Merry Christmas!

  11. So many great ideas! The infuser water bottle sounds like a great gift for those who struggle to drink water during the day (like me ahah). Thanks for sharing this guide 🙂

  13. Thank you for this amazing post! I have been thinking about trying to have a better diet in the new year. Due to lockdown, I put on so much weight lol, so this has really inspired me 🥰

  14. I bought myself a set of resistance bands towards the start of the pandemic so I could do live chat workouts with my partner. Annoyingly though, one of the bands snapped while I was using it.

I added the natural sunlight alarm clocks to my Christmas gift guide myself, as I have trouble waking up in the morning and this is meant to help with that during the darker months. Plan to get one for myself at some point

    1. That’s no good about the bands, you must be too strong! 😁💪 I can vouch for the set here, I have had mine for years now and still love them!

The light is pretty amazing as well, I hope Santa will bring you one. Thank you so much for reading, and Merry Christmas!

  15. There are some great options on this list! I got an Instant Pot for Christmas last year and there is SO much that you can do with them. It has really helped to encourage us to eat healthier by making it easy.

    1. That’s awesome Britt! I hardly ever use my oven now that I’ve got the instant pot pressure cooker and air fryer. I feel like it’s so much easier to use the instant pot, and it doesn’t heat the house up as much as my oven which is a bonus during most of the year here!
